Did somebody tell you that you weren\u2019t creative? Or can you put your finger on a specific moment when you were asked to do a creative exercise at school, and you felt lost?<\/p>
I experienced these things and probably more that I can\u2019t remember, and so my schooldays ended up being focussed on traditionally numerical subjects such as maths and physics. I even pursued them in university, with only some French thanks to a series of family holidays and a rule-bending GCSE teacher to keep something relatively artistic on the menu.<\/p>
My inability to accurately replicate a horse with a pencil and paper or compose the perfect 3-minute pop song only served to concrete my inner belief.<\/p>
It was only in relatively recent times that I have begun to realise that creativity can manifest in many forms. That the ideas I had dismissed as quirky or daft or embarrassing can't be judged in such black and white terms.<\/p>
I like Philippa Perry\u2019s approach. I don\u2019t remember her exact words, but she explained that she creates to enjoy herself and satisfy an itch. Should other people like it, then, of course, that\u2019s a happy boost.
